This is my second attempt at my second photo hoot inspired by Bill Wadman. I set my camera to a slow shutter speed and asked Kate to show her emotion and how she was feeling that day. Some of these photographs were successful and I was able to capture the mixture of emotions she was feeling.

This photograph wasn’t from my shoot inspired by Bill Wadman however, from my first photo shoot these two photographs were unsuccessful for the aspect of work I was doing. The shutter speed was too slow which consequently made the photographs go blurry.

As I am studying Bill Wadman who takes photographs with a slow shutter speeds I thought I would use these photographs for experimentation. I really loved the outcome of it and going to extend this in my next experiment with the same technique and use three or four images.

Here are some successful photos from the shoot that I have edited. Unfortunately, they didn’t turn out how I originally wanted – the photos don’t have the blurred effect as much as I hoped. However, I really liked the turn out. The confliction in her emotion is very dramatic which highlights the brief of ‘Beneath the Surface’. If I was to do this photo shoot again, I would slow the shutter speed a little bit more to create more photos like Bill Wadman and then overlay 3 or 4 photos to create a more abstract expression.

RE-SHOOT

I decided to re shoot this photoshoot with my camera at a slower shutter speed.

This re shoot for this aspect of photography went way better than my original attempt. I decresed the shutter speed more, enhanced the aperture and put my camera on a tripod for an overall stronger shoot. The photos below are my most successful images. From re-viewing my my artist research, it is clear that this photoshoot was a lot more successful then my original.

Photo 1 is my favourite photo out of the whole photoshoot because though the photo still was a 'blurry' look to it, you are still able to see the models face which is what I wanted to achieve. As my project is called 'Beneath the Surface' and for this particular part of my project, I wanted to focus on 'feelings' and 'emotion' this image captures this perfectly.

Editing wise, I increased the exposure and decreased the offset and gamma correction, this created a strong contrast in colours from the black background and the white shirt my model was wearing. Increasing the vibrance and saturation gave my model a warm colour to her skin which is used a lot through out Bill Wadmans work.

Photo 2 isn't one of the best photos but I really liked how 'arty' it looked and her clear facial expression. Again, as I wanted to focus on 'feelings' and 'emotion', I asked my model to smile whilst moving about in the hopes I would be able to capture a photo in which you can see her face. Thought it isn't my strongest photo, I really like how the light reflected off my models bracelet and created a slow shutter speed against the light creating an 'arty' look to the image.

I edited this image in the same way I edited photo 1.

Photo 3 was successful because I thought I researched the Bill Wadman, a similar photo on my pinterest page caught my attention and then I pinned a few photos like this. Though this photo is still taken on a slow shutter speed, I asked my model to move slower so I could capture her facial expression. I think this photo looks very professional because everything is in shot/frame how I want it to be.

For editing, I changed the photo in to black and white to get a different more 'atmospheric' feel to the image compared to the other. I also increased the exposure and decreased the offset to create a strong contrast between the colours.

Photo 4 again, is very similar to a photo I originally saw on my Pinterest page. I like how her hands are up near her head and the slow shutter speed has doubled this which kind of makes the photo look like it's moving or you can at least see the movement in the photograph. This photo represents 'Beneath the Surface' very well I think, her emotion and the capture looks 'lost' and 'confused'.

I edited this image in the same way I edited photo 3.

Photo 5 is another one of my favourites. I like how the image captures the models face at different times through out the time shes moved as the shutter has closed. It really represents 'Beneath the Surface' well I think, with the idea that people can sometimes have multiple personalities and feelings all at one time. I asked my model to stand still and just sway her head from side to side rapidly which achieved this photo.

I edited this photo in the same way photo 1 and photo 2 was edited.

Photo 6 is very different to the other ones as I wanted variation in my final images. On this particular photo, I wanted the models face to be as blurred as possible to create a 'arty' type image. I then increased the vibrance and decreased the saturation to make the image of 'cold' tones run through out. However after making the image to 'dull' of colours, I increased the hue a bit to add some colour to her skin. I feel like the colours blend very well and the I feel like image has an overall 'ghost' like feel to it.

Below are some images that capture stop motion perfectly but weren't 'showing' Beneath the Surface how I wanted my images to.
